Verdant Calm

Across the water from Corfu, the Sivota island group unfolds as a landscape shaped by calm bays, sheltered passages, and luminous color. The journey begins from Gouvia Marina, heading south as sunlight glimmers across the sea. Passing the small islets of Vidos and Lazareto, the silhouette of Corfu’s Old Fortress drifts by on the port side, marking the gentle transition from island to open water.

Following the coastline at an easy pace, the vessel gradually turns toward the mainland. Mouse Island appears briefly before the sea opens ahead, and within a little over an hour, the outline of Sivota begins to take shape on the horizon.

The islands surrounding Sivota sit close to the mainland, creating a mosaic of protected bays accessible only by boat. Among them, the Blue Lagoon — locally known as Pisina Bay — stands out for its pool-like calm and vivid turquoise waters. Sheltered and serene, it offers an ideal setting to swim, snorkel, or simply float as light dances across the surface. Local stories speak of pirate moorings here in centuries past, adding a quiet layer of history to the scene.

From here, the experience unfolds through a sequence of nearby bays, each defined by its own shades of blue and green. Diapori and Bella Vraka invite relaxed exploration, whether in the water or from the deck, as the day moves at an unhurried rhythm with a subtle Caribbean feel.

A stop at Mourtos, the small harbor town on the mainland, offers the option to step ashore for a traditional lunch or a brief stroll through the fishing village. Alternatively, the route may continue along the coast toward Megali Ammos, with quieter stops at bays such as Zeri or Zavia, tucked discreetly between the islands.

On the western side of Mourtos Island, historic sea caves mark the final highlight. The Giant Cave, once used as shelter by Greek naval vessels during the Second World War, opens beneath the lighthouse, framed by sculpted rock and greenery.

As afternoon light softens, the return journey follows Corfu’s southeastern edge. Passing once more before the Old Fortress, a final glass of wine accompanies the calm approach back to base, closing the day in quiet balance.
