Bare Horizons

This private journey unfolds toward the Diapontia Islands, a remote archipelago northwest of Corfu where distance, space, and silence shape the experience. Leaving the familiar coastline behind, the route moves through open Ionian waters and along shorelines that feel untouched by time, setting a slower, more elemental rhythm from the very beginning.

Tracing the western side of Corfu, the journey passes natural sea caves and open coves carved into the rock, before reaching the Kasteli beaches near Palaiokastritsa — an area defined by clear water and raw, unspoiled terrain. Further along, the dramatic twin bays of Porto Timoni open suddenly beneath steep cliffs, offering one of the island’s most striking coastal formations before the course turns toward open sea.

As the Diapontian archipelago comes into view, Mathraki appears first — low, green, and quietly detached from modern development. Its gentle coastline and calm waters invite a pause, offering a sense of isolation that feels rare in the Ionian. The journey continues toward Othonoi, the largest of the islands and the westernmost point of Greece, where rugged cliffs and deep blue bays create a powerful, expansive landscape. Here, Aspri Ammos Beach stands out — a narrow stretch of pale sand accessible only by sea, resting beneath towering white rock. nearby, Calypso’s Cave emerges beneath dramatic formations, its deep colors and shifting light adding a final layer of discovery.

The route then leads to Erikousa, an island softened by greenery and shaped by a small harbor where life moves gently and unhurried, offering a brief glimpse into everyday island rhythms. As the journey turns back toward Corfu, a final stop at Diaplo — a tiny, uninhabited islet — provides a moment of complete stillness, surrounded by clear blue water and open horizon.
